Manufacturing

Bills of materials and work centers

Prepare manufactured products, recipes, operations, work centers, byproducts, and versioned engineering changes.

Manufacturing uses the Inventory entitlement and separate capability flags. Before creating a manufacturing order, prepare the product, recipe, production location, and optional work routing.

Prerequisites

  1. Create the finished product and its output variant under Products.
  2. Create every component variant and ensure stock is available in the production location.
  3. Create the warehouse and internal production location.
  4. Enable the required Manufacturing capabilities under /inventory/settings as a SUPER_ADMIN.

Creating and changing manufacturing master data requires SUPER_ADMIN or MANAGER.

Bills of materials

Open /manufacturing/boms and /manufacturing/boms/new.

  1. Choose the manufactured product and output variant.
  2. Add component variants and quantities.
  3. Add routing operations when the process should track work steps.
  4. Add byproducts where the recipe produces additional inventory.
  5. Save and review the explosion preview.

Nested bills are supported. If a component is itself manufactured, the explosion preview can flatten the tree into raw material demand.

A Bill of Materials definition does not move stock by itself. A manufacturing order snapshots the active recipe at confirmation and moves stock at completion.

Work centers

Open /manufacturing/work-centers.

Create stations or resources where operations run. A work center can carry scheduling and cost information. It labels and times work, but it does not consume inventory by itself.

Use the work center detail to record time off when that capability is enabled. Availability can influence work center selection and scheduling.

Engineering changes

Open /plm for Engineering Changes. Every Bill of Materials has a version. Applying an Engineering Change Order snapshots the current recipe, applies approved changes, and advances the version.

Open a bill to review version history and line differences. Existing manufacturing orders retain the recipe version they confirmed against.

Common problems

What you seeWhat to check
Finished product is missingIt is not configured as a manufacturable inventory product.
Component is missingCreate or inventory link its variant first.
Explosion failsReview nested bills for missing lines or a circular recipe.
Work center is unavailableCheck active state and recorded time off.
Manufacturing page says disabledA SUPER_ADMIN must enable the corresponding capability.
